WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
TASK vs. Traditional Tutoring

When your child is not doing well in school, finding a tutor may seem like it makes the most sense. Understanding how TASK to Success is different from traditional tutoring is important in determining what is best for you child.

TASK IS AN ONGOING LEARNING PROGRAM, NOT A TUTORING CENTER

* Parents often choose tutoring in the hopes of quickly eliminating a child's struggles. But a short-term fix doesn't address the foundational gaps in learning.
* TASK to Success ensures that children learn every building block of reading, writing and math through a series of mini lessons, shared instruction, guided practice and independent practice.
* Through daily practice, each skill is learned before moving on to the next incrementally more challenging skill. This little bit of practice every day and ongoing learning is how TASK students succeed.

TASK PINPOINTS THE ROOT OF YOUR CHILD'S STRUGGLES AND STARTS THERE

* Tutoring often focuses on the immediate need, such as "My child needs help right now with multiplication & division."
* The TASK Program acknowledges that a child's struggle likely stems from having missed earlier, foundational skills.
* At TASK, we go back to the basics to ensure that these foundational skills are learned, before moving forward to grade level skills and beyond.

YOUR CHILD WILL COMPLETE AN ASSESSMENT TEST TO MEASURE GROWTH & SUCCESS OVER TIME

* While a tutor may start a 2nd grader on 2nd grade material, TASK may start them at a different level.
* It's crucial that any gaps in understanding be learned first, so your child can better comprehend more advanced skills.

TASK USES STRATEGY BASED LESSONS THAT IS ALIGNED TO A CONTINUUM OF LEARNING

* A tutor often helps children with material they're being taught in their current grade or with their homework assignments.
* At TASK, we come along side the work being done in the classroom. When a child struggles with a concept, we identify the foundational strategies on the "Strategy Continuum of Learning" that will support the skill they need to be successful in school. Then we gradually move your child up towards grade level skills.
* Our TASK assessments pinpoint on the continuum exactly what skills your child needs in order to meet and surpass grade level skills.

TASK USES A GRADUAL RELEASE OF RESPONSIBILITY APPROACH TO LEARNING

* A traditional tutor often sits with a child and explains how to solve a problem. So the child is doing a lot of listening, instead of a lot of DOING. Listening to an explanation is no guarantee that the skill has been fully understood. This is why struggles often come back.
* With our Gradual Release of Responsibility approach, we help your child become an independent, self-motivated learner. (Look at the diagram to the right to see how it works!)
