Open the Door For Richer, Deeper Conversations About Books! Our Move It, Talk About It Boards invite your child or students to discuss what they know or think about books, which creates a buzz that will help to develop a longtime love and appreciation for reading.
Although it is always wonderful to curl up on your own with a book, talking about what you are reading can be a different kind of “wonderful”! You can be the sounding board for safe reading conversations with your child or students. We become their best “close listeners,” leaning in to the magic and joy of their percolating ideas. Like any conversation, talking about books can happen anywhere, anytime — in the car, at the bus stop, or over dinner. Books can elicit strong feelings that need to be shared. In fact, talking to children about a book as you share it together is just as important as reading the words to them! The payoffs are huge for kids in terms of reading comprehension skills, listening skills, speaking skills, and more. Your child or students will:
Soar beyond the page, developing important muscles of comprehension and depth of thinking that inspire them to become “super reader” strong when you ask thought-provoking questions.
Learn how books work and how to explore them when they discuss the pictures, characters, and what is happening in the story.
Get their super reading strengths going in a way that builds their confidence and courage as readers.
Grow their language, confidence, and self-esteem.
Our Move It, Talk About It Boards will help build your child's reading comprehension skills, listening skills, speaking skills, and so much more!!!
How do they work?
Each person playing the Move It, Talk About It Board selects a Post-it or card that seems especially significant or intriguing and places them in the corners of the board. One person chooses a Post-it or card to talk about first and then move to the middle of the board. The talk continues as long as possible about that one idea in the middle of the board.
Other options: 1) One person lays four of their Post-its in each corner of the board. 2) Partners can each choose 2 Post-its to put in the corner of the board.
